How normalization will help the aspirants of SSC CGL 2021 Exam?

irrespective of the questions asked in various shifts. For the last few years, aspirants were experiencing a major imbalance in the difficulty level of various shifts of the same exam. Sometimes morning shift was easy and evening was difficult, which ruins the courage and determination of the candidates to study for the exam. The results also proved positive for the easy question paper shift candidates than those who appeared in the difficult ones. Therefore, to evade such disparities in the same exam normalization has been introduced.

What is normalization?

Normalization is a process of adjusting values evaluated at different levels and brings down to the normal scale. It is used in the event of evaluating the performance of the candidates in the same exam with different levels of difficulty. This aims at adjusting the gap of the level amongst various shifts of the same exam.
There are various methods of implementing normalization to the score of the candidates at different shifts with variations in the levels of difficulty. One of them is given below:
Normalization Formula
For example, the one of the given formula used for normalizing marks is:
Normalized Score for Each Candidate (Xn)
Formula Used: Xn=(S2/S1)*(X-Xav) +Yav
S2 Is the Standard Deviation of the shift with the Highest Average score taken as the base of the Normalization
S1 Standard Deviation for the corresponding shift (to be scaled to S2)
X Raw score of a candidate
Xav Simple average of the shift
Yav Average corresponding to shift with highest average(Taken as the base for normalization)
After calculating the marks and percentage of all the shifts of a given exam by using this formula, commission declares a general cut-off for the exam.
Although, SSC has not declared which formula will be adopted in the process of normalization for SSC CGL 2021 Notification , yet one can get an idea by going through the above mentioned formula. It will give you some idea about the effect of normalization of marks in SSC CGL Exam 2021 prelims.
