How to prepare for SSC CGL TIER III EXAM?

Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC CGL EXAM every year. It is conducted in four phases such as:
         Tier                                                Type                                                       Mode
  • Tier – I Objective Multiple Choice                                 Online
  • Tier – II Objective Multiple Choice                                 Online
  • Tier – III Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi                   Pen and Paper mode
  • Tier – IV Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test               Where Required
SSC CGL Tier I and II are conducted online and are having objective type questions where Tier III has descriptive type questions. It is easy to answer objective type questions but one needs a writing expertise to attempt descriptive paper.
To prepare for SSC CGL Tier III Exam one need to have proficiency in the language one is going to write the paper. Either Hindi or English, Language needs perfection and accuracy to score well in the descriptive exam. There are certain tips to enhance the writing skills to score well in the Descriptive test these are:
  1. Stick to the word limit
Generally essay has a word limit of 250 words. It is advisable to write within the word limit given in the examination. Do not overwrite even if you want to write extra; do not cross more than 25-30 words extra. Examiner will not award you more marks for writing more therefore bear in your mind before you start attempting question on Essay.
  1. Make points relevant to the topic
First of all think and write relevant points on the given topic. It will help you maintain the required flow in the description or else you might go out of the topic.
  1. Practice on Block Sheets
SSC CGL Tier III answer-sheet has blocks in it and one has to write the entire essay within the block or blocks specified for the given question. It will enable you to be aware of the actual paper you will get in the examination hall. Therefore you can write comfortably as you know the space available for your write-up.
  1. Relevant content
The content you are going to write should be focused on the topic given in the question paper. It needs a thorough knowledge of the particular topic. In order to enhance your thinking and knowledge it is better to read current affairs on daily basis to know how to write expressively.
  1. Make short and précis sentences
Avoid making long sentences as it might take you off the track. In order to maintain the track and central idea intact, make short and précis sentences.
  1. Learn various formats of letter writing
There are various forms of letter writing such as formal, informal etc. All these formats should be learned and practiced so that you can display the letter correctly.
  1. Correct usage of grammar
Use correct language pattern and flow to score well in the exam. The main aim of the descriptive test is to examine the language proficiency of the candidate. It is advisable not to make any mistake.
Hope these points will help you prepare effectively for the qualifying phase of SSC CGL Exam 2020 i.e Tier III.
