Recruitment & Job Profile of Examiner Post through SSC CGL

SSC CGL is an examination conducted every year to employ personnel for various at Group B and Group C level in the government ministries as well as various government organizations such as CBI, NIA etc. One of the most sought after posts through SSC CGL Exam is the Examiner in Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) which is an apex body for Indirect Taxes in India.

Who is an Examiner?

An Examiner post is given in the CBEC. It is a Group-B post of the Central Government with the following offers:
     - The pay scale for this post is Rs. 9300-34800 and grade pay is Rs. 4600.

Functions performed by the Examiners

The Following functions are performed by the Examiner: -
      - An examiner is accountable for probing the taxes being levied on the goods imported and exported by the country.
      - Duty involves two types:

·         Field work: - In the field postings, an examiner is accountable for checking the goods imported or exported along with making a decision on the duties to be charged for the goods.
·         Office work: - An office duty involves a normal work of a clerk such as typing, making reports, filing, etc.

Examiner: Minimum Physical Standards

To become an examiner candidate should have following physical stats:
  1.  The minimum height for a male candidate should be 157.5 cms and chest must to be 81 cm wide, whereas for women candidates, height should be 152 cm and weight should be 48 kgs.
   2. One has to qualify the physical efficiency test to be recruited as an examiner. The test consists of the following:
·         For male candidates, test involves walking 1600 meters in 15 minutes and cycling 8 kms in 30 minutes
·         For Female candidates, test involves walking 1 km in 20 minutes and cycling 3 kms in 20 minutes.
Kindly note that physically challenged candidates are not eligible for this post. Nevertheless, Color blind candidates are not permitted for this post.

Place of Postings

The postings for the Examiner post are given in six zones of the country such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Vizag, Cochin and Goa. Thus, candidates are posted in these zones only.

Policy for Promotion

Promotions are faster as compared to the other posts offered by CGLE exam.
The promotional path is as follows:-
One can appear in the departmental exam after completing a minimum of 3 years of service to become an appraiser. It varies from the number of vacancies in the zone and the seniority which makes the difference in the process of promotion to the next level.
